All vehicles that are three or more years old require an MOT to be carried out annually that looks at the safety of your car and its emissions.
The test covers many different areas — from emissions to lights, to seatbelts to brakes — many of the things that would compromise your safety or the environment.
MOT’s can only be carried out by technicians in garages that are authorised by the Ministry of Transport.
To be able to perform an MOT, the person must be a skilled technician with at least four years experience repairing the types of vehicles they wish to test.
They must also have a full driving licence for the vehicle class they wish to test.
Along with this, they must be at least twenty years old and have no unspent criminal offences connected with vehicle testing, the motor trade or those involving acts of violence or intimidation.
